OER-Open Educational Resource Guide: Modern Languages

he Center for Open Educational Resources & Language Learning (COERLL) is one of 16 National Foreign Language Resource Centers (LRC's) funded by the U.S. Department of Education. COERLL's mission is to produce and disseminate Open Educational Resources (OER) for the Internet public (e.g., online language courses, reference grammars, assessment tools, corpora, etc.).

LORO contains resources for language teaching available to download and reuse, including those used by the Department of Languages at the Open University, UK.

Open Learn is an initiative of The Open University, UK. It provides supplemental materials for educators, including articles, podcasts, videos, games, and much more. In addition, it offers more than 700 free online classes.

All the materials in MERLOT are reviewed for suitability for retention in the collection. Many undergo the more extensive "peer review" for which MERLOT is famous. MERLOT presents annual awards for various categories of materials added to or used in the collection. As described in Material Link Checking and Removal, all material URL's in the collection are reviewed frequently for sustainability.

Pressbooks supports blended and online learning with an intuitive authoring platform for educational material, an extensive directory of public books and open educational resources (OER), and secure methods of delivering content to learning management systems (LMS). Create or import content, add multimedia and interactive elements like quizzes, integrate content into the LMS, deliver content online and in multiple downloadable formats, and assess and track student learning—all with one easy-to-use platform.

MIT OpenCourseWare (OCW) is a web-based publication of virtually all MIT course content. OCW is open and available to the world and is a permanent MIT activity.
